Event Details

Marine debris (trash) is a worldwide problem; an estimated 14 billion pounds of trash are dumped in the ocean yearly. Since many forms of debris are not biodegradable, they can cause problems for years to come. As many as 100,000 Marine animals and two million sea birds die each year from eating or ingesting marine debris.

Wildlife abounds along the shores of Tampa Bay. As many as 40,000 pairs of birds nest in Tampa Bay every year. Others, including sandpipers and white pelicans, are seasonal visitors. The bay is also home to dolphins, sea turtles, and manatees.

We will head to a Tampa Bay coastal area to perform a "Clean Up." We will scour for marine debris and trash.  We will spend about four hours performing clean up.

Wear your "GET REAL Involved!" t-shirt, bring sunscreen, bug spray, sun screen, work clothes, gloves & hats and closed toed shoes. And of course a smile and a positive attitude.

Select a "ticket" to register for this event and this will serve as your permission slip. Only 38 spaces are available.

GET REAL Involved!

GET REAL Involved! engages youth in community service within Tampa Bay.

This group was formed based on the idea that getting students involved in community service early and often will change the world.

We know students want to make a difference, and that they prefer to spend time with their peers &  friends.  GET REAL Involved! service projects allow them to do just that.  We organize turnkey service projects within the Tampa Bay community that are screened to conform to Hillsborough County School requirements for service hours.

All trips are fully chaperoned with background checked adults.  All service sites have been screened.  We've done all the work, all you have to do is fill out some forms (click here) and show up!

This group is sponsored by the Youth Ministry of Hyde Park United Methodistwhich has been organizing monthly youth service projects under the GET REAL banner since 2006.  All are welcome!
